Tombs and Pyramids Step and Bent

We drove out into the country side today to see pyramids even older than Giza. The first one called the Bent pyramid was done without the careful engineering of the three at Giza and one of the sides was out of line. Careful study of the errors and another one was built with better calculations and it is called the Red Pyramid even though it is brown. The step pyramid was build in stairsteps with each layer getting shorter and more narrow. It was surrounded by a courtyard used for celebrations. The final stop was a gorgeous tomb which was built like a house. The walls were covered with carvings of everyday life. Bread making, wine making, fishing and pets etc. Some of the paint remained fresh and new. But the most fun was a dinner cruise on the Nile complete with mediocre food and cheesy entertainment. Belly dancers, a whirling dervish, chorus girls, some really beautiful music and a lot of audience participation. Everybody got into the act and tried their hand at belly dancing. Troy was honored with a piece of cake and a very foreign version of happy birthday. The drive to and from the hotel to the boat was harrowing. Cars driving every which way, tuk tuks in and out around the cars, scooters, pedestrians causally crossing the busy road and horse and donkey drawn wagons carrying farm produce. If we lived in Cairo it would seem natural and I promise never to complain about Houston traffic.
