Alexandria Is Great
Alexandria, Egypt reminds me of Galveston: an historical library, fascinating cemeteries, a fishing fleet, and a long boulevard lined with hotels facing the sea. Our hotel called the Palace is gaudy in a wonderfully Egyptian way. The lobby is full of marble, crystal chandeliers, bronze and gold decor. The furniture is overstuffed velvet and damask. Very much it reflects the taste of this country. Our side is a huge pool and there is also an indoor pool, spa and gym. We may use the indoor facilities since ironically it is raining. Every one is excited about that. A cat found us for dinner last night and we secretly fed him. He was back for breakfast this morning. Like Turkey, stray animals are well treated. They are spayed and neutered and well fed. Also like Turkey , donkeys and horse drawn buggies share the streets and highways with fast driven cars. We were the only Westerners at breakfast which is a real feast. Fruit, vegetables for salads, beans egg plant mushrooms and rice. Eggs any style, coffee, tea and fresh juice. We shared a table with an Indonesian TV broadcaster and his wife. They were on a tour with about sixty of their countrymen. We feel so lucky to have shared time with so many kind and curious people on our travels.
